SPEAKING OF PAINTING:
My medium is acrylic paint. It is a very underappreciated medium as far as paintings go. There's this thing called Scholastics where I live, and I got a gold portfolio, which means it's now going to New York to be judged regionally.
If I do well, I could get a 10,000 dollar scholarship!! I hope to God I get something...
There's also this girl in my class, and I swear everyone's lips are permanently attached to her buttcheeks in kissy position, because... she's not that great.
I did the MICA precollege program over the summer, and I saw real painters. I don't think I'm anything amazing, but seriously, some of the kids there could paint like it was nobody's business. (myself not included, i got my ass kicked regularly in the skills department.)
SO, I think I could recognize good painting when I see it. And frankly, she isn't anything amazing either. But you'd think with the way people keep falling all over themselves for her that she's the next great fucking Van Gogh or Degas or Picasso. She doesn't know how to paint, she does it wrong. She ignores negative space, her anatomy is off slightly (not on purpose, she's convinced she's perfect though and she doesn't have to fix her work.)
BASICALLY, she annoys the shit out of me b/c she did this GIANT macaroni painting, like the size of a wall. And she got a national honor for it. For macaroni. PASTA. ON A WALL.
REALLY!!! I can't fucking stand it myself... it's obnoxious and needs to be taken out of the school before I melt it down and turn it into dinner.
But of course my whole school, who's primary focus is football and getting into ivy league schools, thinks she's amazing. She is THE ARTIST of the school.
I know kids at my school who are fucking amazing and get no credit. My friend Naomi's colored pencils are absolutely phenomenal; they look EXACTLY like whatever she was trying to draw. And my best friend Cate's sculptures should be sold for money. People would buy them... she has a DA too somewhere. Austin's photo shop skills are unmatched, and Ke's watercolors are AMAZING. HE won a big thing as well as that bitch in my class (who won one for her macaroni. WHAT THE HELL.)
THEY should get as much, if not more praise, than her.
Eh I might sound bitter and stuff, but when you have to basically eat her shit everyday for two years you'd get sick of her too.
